Utah Bagpiper - Johnny Miner
My name is Johnny Miner. Playing the bagpipes has been a passion of mine for many years and is a big part of who I am. I love sharing this passion with others. I began playing the bagpipes in 1997. My early instructors provided a solid foundation of piping fundamentals as well as a passion for the music of the pipes. I was exposed early on to world class piping, receiving personal instruction from some of the world’s best pipers when the world champion Simon Fraser University Pipe Band visited my home town in 1999 and 2000. Inspired by these early experiences, I resolved to always seek out the very best possible instruction and to immerse himself in great piping whenever possible. I received instruction from world champion bagpiper Jori Chisholm. Jori’s instruction helped me gain numerous solo prizes throughout the western US and to rise through the ranks to grade 1. I have also received instruction from world class piper Ian Whitelaw. I was a founding member of the Mount Timpanogos Pipe Band, leading the band as Pipe Major from 2003 - 2010. I also played with the Utah Pipe Band (grade 3) from 2003 - 2004. From 2008 till the present I have played with the Wasatch & District Pipe Band. I was the Pipe Sergeant of the band from 2013 - 2016. In August 2011, I competed as a member of the band at the World Pipe Band Championships is Glasgow, Scotland. This was a dream come true and a highlight of my piping career. As a result of the band's competitive success, the band was upgraded to grade 2 in the fall of 2014 making it one of a only a dozen or so bands in North America to reach that designation. Piping is a life long passion of mine and it is a pleasure to share this special music with others.
